WHAT IS SLEEP APNEA?

Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder that causes breathing to repeatedly stop and start during sleep. This can lead to a decrease in the amount of oxygen in the blood, which can cause a variety of health problems over time.

Common symptoms of sleep apnea include loud snoring, gasping or choking during sleep, excessive daytime sleepiness, morning headaches, and difficulty concentrating. If left untreated, sleep apnea can increase the risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, and other serious health problems.

CPAP stands for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure, which is a type of therapy used to treat sleep apnea. It involves the use of a machine that delivers a continuous stream of air through a mask worn over the nose and/or mouth during sleep.

The air pressure helps keep the airway open, preventing episodes of apnea or hypopnea (shallow breathing). CPAP therapy can significantly reduce the symptoms of sleep apnea, such as loud snoring, excessive daytime sleepiness, and morning headaches.

There are different types of CPAP machines available, including fixed pressure machines, auto-adjusting machines, and bi-level machines, which provide two different levels of pressure during inhalation and exhalation. Our trained staff can help you determine which type of machine is best for you.
